When is a penn a pen, a solomon a solomon, and ignorance misandry by default?

Regarding the article, “Sean Penn stumps in Petaluma for congressional candidate,” that appeared on petaluma360.com on Aug. 23, I found it ironic that Norman Solomon would use a Hollywood celebrity in order to attract people to his campaign events, given that, in 2008 he penned a column entitled “Hidden costs of America’s celebrity obsession.” Solomon opined, “Reverence for celebrities is the flip side of tacit contempt for ‘average’ people. It can be an insidious process: As we focus on the famous, other people fade into our peripheral vision. By an unspoken and unconscious logic, the world becomes populated with a few somebodies and a glut of near-nobodies.”

I also found it ironic that Penn spoke of his concern for violence against women when, during his first marriage, he was charged with felony domestic assault, which he pleaded to a misdemeanor.
