On January 23, 2012 I received an intriguing invitation for NCFM to be part of EARTH DAY. The invitation said,
“We would love to have men be recognized as also being socially, and environmentally aware, and leading the efforts, alongside with the National Organization for Women, as we come together to help improve our environment!
The National Coalition for Men (NCFM) would receive extensive publicity and media exposure, and there is no financial requirement (this is just to show society that men think being environmentally aware is important, too, and that men are wanting to help the environment and community, too!) NCFM’s logo would be alongside to NOW’s.”
Our Board of Directors agreed there were indeed environmental factors related to men’s health and wellbeing that need addressing. It was decided that accepting this invitation would provide NCFM the opportunity to spotlight those factors and develop relationships with other organizations. This will be the first time NCFM and NOW have equal billing at an event and the opportunity to work together.
NCFM Vice-President Marc Angelucci, Esq. volunteered to represent NCFM. He was appointed an Earth Day Executive Board Member along with MonaLisa Wallace, Esq. General Advisor, Development & The National Organization for Women Liaison (NOW Liaison).
This is a major event and where we hope to have and educational booth staffed by Marc and other NCFM members or supporters. If you would like to participate please send me an email.
I wish to thank Bianca Velishek for extending to us the invitation. Her enthusiasm and sincerity won my support and I’m looking forward to not meeting her. A special thanks goes to our Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter President and National Treasurer Deborah Watkins for coordinating with Ms. Velishek and our Board.
On a personal note, I never thought we’d see NCFM and NOW on the same platform. Our logos will even be side by side on promotional materials and so forth. I am hopeful that together we find other common ground.
